Engineering Assessment Specialist

Gridnaut Recruiting seeks engineers to create and evaluate academic assessment materials for an AI research initiative. Work involves authoring and verifying rigorous multiple-choice questions across engineering domains while establishing benchmarks to advance AI capabilities.

Location: Remote (US-based applicants)

Compensation: $35-$75 USD/hour

Task Types (Choose One):

  • Question Authoring: Develop original, challenging multiple-choice questions within your engineering expertise area, rate difficulty levels, and submit for review.
  • Question Verification: Review pre-written questions for accuracy and clarity, edit as needed, rate difficulty, and document modifications.

Engineering Domains: Mechanical & Thermal Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Miscellaneous Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create questions testing deep conceptual understanding rather than surface-level recall
  • Ensure questions are unambiguous, self-contained, with all necessary problem information included
  • Assign difficulty ratings: Medium (introductory undergraduate), Hard (advanced undergraduate), or Expert (post-graduate and above)
  • Provide one correct answer plus nine plausible but incorrect alternatives challenging expert solvers
  • Write step-by-step Chain-of-Thought solutions with clear intermediate steps in markdown
  • Supply 1-5 academic references from peer-reviewed journals or university repositories per question
  • Flag clarity, completeness, precision, or solvability issues during verification tasks

Ideal Qualifications:

  • PhD or doctoral candidacy in Engineering or related field
  • Master's degree acceptable for candidates with exceptional subdomain expertise
  • Graduate-level engineering principles, applied mathematics, and domain-specific standards knowledge
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or industry experience preferred
  • Excellent written English with ability expressing complex concepts clearly

Commitment: 10+ hours per week, fully asynchronous, remote
